Sometimes, winter in the Northeast brings radically freezing weather to our town and brings life to a standstill. It also brings business to a halt. During these times, I have to dig down deep so I can continue to move forward. A lot is mental, but the physically numbing cold is real.
I do get through it but it just takes me longer to warm up then it used to. I used to love this weather but over the last couple of years, my body aches and everything just seems harder to accomplish.
Kind of like my Old F250 Super Duty Diesel. It takes a while to warm up, but when it does, the engine converts energy to heat and the power is incredible
On the emotional side, the feeling of being trapped sets in. Eventually, when the day is winding down, complete boredom sometimes becomes an issue. The good ole doldrums can take over and leave you feeling Blah.
Well, there’s hope for all because every February we celebrate two significant and fun days. One is Super bowl Sunday and the other is Valentine’s Day. Which one do you like better?
In the next blog, I will discuss in detail what we have going on for Valentine’s Day, but this episode will concentrate on football, the super bowl, and BBQ.
This year, for some reason I watched a ton of football. I thought the games were really exciting. I enjoyed that fact that many of the previous winning teams weren’t dominating the standings and for the first time in a while, new teams were challenging for playoff spots. Week in and week out, no one really knew who the best team was, and I liked that.
A couple years back I switched from being a 48 year long Miami Dolphin fan to a LA Chargers fan. I was tired of losing and I really like Justin Herbert (QB). I got all the garb and paraphernalia like hoodies, T-shirts, hats, etc. Although we didn’t make it too deep in the playoffs, I still enjoyed watching all the games and I’m definitely looking forward to the super bowl.
Just like that new Uber Eats commercial with that one actor and Matthew McConaughey? Food is an important part of football, especially during the Super Bowl and especially BBQ! That’s right, Black Hog BBQ to be exact!
I usually stay home to watch the super bowl because I THINK IT’s the best seat “in the house”. When you can tape, pause, and fast forward the game, bathroom breaks aren’t rushed and extra time can be spent on making sure the food is looking good and tasting right.
This year Black Hog is offering one of the best super bowl specials in recent memory. It is a very substantial order of food that will feed at least 4 hungry people throughout the day.
Please order in advance. You can pick the order up at the closest Black Hog location or order through any one of our delivery partners like Uber Eats. Do what McConaughey does. I think he’s a funny dude for sure.
If you need a good show to watch when you’re trapped in the house by this weather, watch the first episode of True Detective. That show is one of the best shows I’ve seen for a while. Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey produced and starred in the show.
See, I’m not as narrow minded as you think. Other than BBQ, I can opine with confidence on many subjects including, entertainment, mental health issues, sports, politics, and more! Don’t box me in Hoggers!
The Super Bowl Special includes the following:
- Full slab of St. Louis Style pork spare ribs (wet or dry)
- 16 Chicken Wings (buffalo, mustard, BBQ, or dry rub)
- 1 pound of smoked pork shoulder
- 3 pints of homemade sides
- ½ dozen rolls – sauce-pickles
All of this food for $100 bucks. That’s about 10% of our regular menu price. It’s not a ton but every little bit helps
You can also go to our Website (www.blackhogbbq.com) and click on the catering menu. We have some tried and true packages that have been well received over the years. Check out the “Chuck Wagon” or for more food, look at the “Block Party”
If your household makes a day of super bowl Sunday, and if you care to wake up early, try to tackle smoking something. No, not that, I’m talking about meat!
It’s an all-day event that takes time and attention. I mean, what else are you gonna do before the game. You might as well be cooking or should I say smoking something!
What would be cool is if you bought the special that features a full rack of ribs and you also smoke a full rack of ribs at home. Challenge yourself. See how it compares. Who knows, it might even be better than the Black Hog Ribs. At least you might have bragging rights, right?
Well, enjoy the super bowl and ask yourself a question? Who is your Valentine? Does your Valentine like BBQ? If your Valentine loves BBQ, I think you should stop goofing around and get a ring on that finger!
Stay tuned for the next episode.
